Johannesburg: Cultural Traditions and Contemporary Visions
My brief stay near Johannesburg will provide an opportunity to explore the remarkable cultural diversity of southern Africa. A visit to Lesedi Cultural Village will introduce me to the traditions, architecture, music, dance, and artistic practices of several indigenous groups, including the Zulu, Xhosa, Pedi, Basotho, and Ndebele peoples. By experiencing these living traditions firsthand, I hope to gain a deeper appreciation for how art, craft, and performance communicate cultural identity and preserve history across generations. A visit to the Nirox Sculpture Park will further demonstrate how contemporary artists continue to draw upon Africa's rich cultural heritage while engaging with modern ideas and global audiences
